To access the ddmsunderground newsgroup through the outlook
newsreader use the following instructions:
Please note these instructions only work in windows versions that
include Outlook Express. Windows
do not include Outlook Express and therefore do not support a newsreader. There
are many free newsreaders and
and other programs that support news. If you have Procomm it has a built in
Newsreader.
Ø In Outlook click on View -> GoTo -> News (The newsreader will open)
Ø Click on Tools -> Accounts -> News (the News Tab)
Ø If you want to add the ddmsunderground use the Add button -> News
o Enter your Display Name (your name) Click Next
o Enter your Email Address click Next
o Enter the News server (lyris.dundee.net)
o Check the box that says My news server requires me to logon
o Enter your account name (your email address that you are subscribed under to the ddmsunderground)
o Enter your password (New members receive in their welcome letter)
o Check the Remember Password box
o Do not check the box that says Logon Using Secure Password Authentication
o Click Next
o Click Finish
o You will get a message asking if you would like to download a list of newsgroups - Click Yes and then subscribe to the ddmsunderground
Ø If you want to modify your existing settings click the Properties button
o On the General Tab make sure there is a News Account e.g. lyris.dundee.net (although this name can be anything that you will recognize)
o Make sure your name is entered correctly
o Make sure your email address is entered correctly
o Nothing else needs to be entered on this page
o On the Server Tab make sure the Server Name is entered correctly (lyris.dundee.net)
o Make sure the box that says "This server requires me to logon" is checked
o In the Account Name make sure that the email address that you are subscribed to the ddmsunderground under is entered correctly
o In the Password enter your password for the ddmsunderground (New members receive in their welcome letter)
o Do not check the box that says Logon Using Secure Password Authentication
o Click OK to save your settings
Ø To access the posts of the newsgroup
o In the left panel (folders) click on the server name for the ddmsunderground newsgroup
o Then in the right pane click on Synchronize
o This will download any new messages
